Liverpool have been urged to make a decision concerning Mohamed Salah this summer that Reds supporters have been fearing for some time.
The Egyptian international is set to stay at Anfield this window, with Saudi Arabia clubs still interested in Salah one year on from missing out on the Liverpool superstar, with bids reaching as high as £150m for the attacker.
After another historic season with Liverpool, Arne Slot will be relying on Salah to help the Dutchman get off to a good start as manager of the Reds, where at 32-years-old the former AS Roma man still looks as good as ever.
Yet Liverpool have now been told to make a decision this summer that fans have been dreading.
Liverpool urged to sign long-term Salah replacement this summer
Speaking on TalkSport, pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor strongly suggested to Liverpool that this summer is the one the Merseyside giants finally sign a long-term replacement for Salah, even if that player doesn’t take over from the Egyptian next season.
With Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo linked with a move to Liverpool this weekend, it appears that the Anfield side are making preparations to replace Salah next year, and a signing this summer could go a long way in aiding the Reds for this eventual change.
Agbonlahor said when asked what Liverpool should be looking to do this summer in the transfer market: “What I would say that Liverpool this summer should be looking at a Salah replacement.
“Maybe not to be straight in, do you know what I mean? You can bring him in, gradually during the season, so he has got a season and then next season is the season when Salah goes. That’s what I will say.”
Salah replacement is a difficult yet needed signing this summer
The thought of Salah leaving Anfield and the right-wing being occupied by another player is a thought most Liverpool fans will rather not think about, such is the 32-year-old’s impact with the Reds in the last seven years.
Yet the time is upon us for Liverpool to start considering this transfer, and this summer could be the best time for Slot and his team to bring in the player they think is capable of replacing Salah in the years to come.
As Agbonlahor said, bringing in a player now to learn the ropes under Salah could be a smart decision and one that sets Liverpool up for a bright future, and such a signing should be made before the closure of the transfer window.
