Everton will not be in a rush to part ways with Jarrad Branthwaite before August 30, despite signing a potential backup in Jake O’Brien, according to Michael Bridge.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday (30 July, 19:13) the journalist claimed that with Amadou Onana departing to Aston Villa, the Toffees will not sell Branthwaite for “much less than they value him”.

He added that Sean Dyche’s side sees the 22-year-old as a valuable asset worth “big money”.

This is despite the fact that the Toffees have announced the permanent signing of O’Brien, who could be seen as a direct replacement.

When asked whether Branthwaite will be leaving as a result, Bridge said: “Everton fans will certainly hope not. I think in terms of Everton, and in terms of Jarrad Branthwaite, it’s been made perfectly clear from minute one of this transfer window that he is worth big money.

“We saw Amadou Onana go to Aston Villa and that deal means Everton will not contemplate selling Branthwaite for much less than what they value him.”

Everton will not let Jarrad Branthwaite go easily

Everton’s refusal to budge on their £70million asking price for Branthwaite shows they’re not just going to hand him over.

Manchester United, who have been interested throughout the summer, might not want to pursue him further if the Toffees stick to their guns.

Branthwaite was a standout player last season, forming a rock-solid partnership with James Tarkowski and even earning a nod from Gareth Southgate for the Euro 2024 provisional squad.

While Everton’s new signing O’Brien might raise some eyebrows, it doesn’t mean Branthwaite is on his way out. O’Brien’s arrival adds depth, but it’s clear that Sean Dyche views Branthwaite as a key part of his plans.

The club’s stance suggests they’re prepared to keep him unless a club like the Red Devils meet their hefty valuation.
