Alan Myers raves about Farhad Moshiri as Everton finalise deal today

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has been praised by Sky Sports’ Alan Myers for his involvement in the signing of Jake O’Brien.

Posting on his X account [30 July], Myers lauded Moshiri along with Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell for their process in securing the Irishman, who was unveiled on Tuesday following his move from Lyon.

O’Brien became the Toffees’ fifth signing of the transfer window, and joins a defensive pool which still includes Jarrad Branthwaite despite heavy interest from Manchester United.

Myers posted: “Another good piece of business by the club, getting the work done, seems a much more effective and in tune process being employed by Thelwell, Dyche and Moshiri regarding transfer business.”

Moshiri’s involvement in Everton transfers

The comments which have accumulated under Myers’ post during Tuesday evening signify a disbelief from Everton supporters that Moshiri has been too involved in player signings.

Myers has retorted to the doubts by declaring it is Moshiri’s job to “say yes” to Thelwell when organising deals for new recruits, with O’Brien having been brought in for a fee of over £16m.

Some have claimed the majority shareholder’s failure to sell the club despite separate periods of exclusivity in talks with two consortiums means Everton may have to weaken their stance on keeping players like Branthwaite to complement O’Brien in Dyche’s defence.

However, the £50m sale of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa has relieved much of the short-term pressure to lose further assets, as the club look to build on a strong end to last season on the field despite the continuing chaos upstairs.

The Blues are working seemingly within their means in the summer window having made a net profit on players of around £28m, with O’Brien hoped to have an impact at both ends of the pitch following his impressive defensive displays in tandem with five Ligue 1 goals last term.
