Gareth Southgate is holding out for a potential move to Manchester United instead of Everton, according to Give Me Sport.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (30 September) that the England manager has not registered an interest in taking over the reins at Goodison Park should Sean Dyche depart Merseyside.
Instead, the 54-year-old remains interested in succeeding Erik ten Hag as United manager should the Red Devils opt to make a change in the Old Trafford dugout and is therefore keen not to commit to joining the Toffees.
Reports suggested that Dan Friedkin was looking to appoint Southgate as Dyche’s successor once his takeover was completed at Goodison Park [Give Me Sport, 23 September] having finally reached an agreement with Farhad Moshiri.
Will Everton sack Sean Dyche after Goodison Park takeover developments?
Everton fans will likely be relieved to hear that Southgate doesn’t appear to be particularly interested in making the move to Goodison Park, as very few supporters were keen to see the the 54-year-old appointed.
While his record with England is impressive, his managerial CV at club level is nothing special. While plenty of fans still want to see Dyche sacked, there are very few who are pining for Southgate to be the man to replace him.
Ultimately, Dyche is the better manager to have in a Premier League relegation battle as he has proven his ability time and time again and if the new owners feel they need someone to help them climb the league, there are other managers more qualified than Southgate.
There is every chance that the former Three Lions boss gets a new job and shows the Toffees they were wrong not to pursue his signature, but on the face of it, this doesn’t feel like a major blow to either the Blues or Friedkin.
It will be interesting whether the Friedkin Group look to make a change in the dugout once their takeover is approved now that their number one manager choice has stepped back from the running, however.
