'They'll definitely...' - Wenham backs Tottenham to make loan decision on 17y/o gem

John Wenham believes Tottenham will take a look at Luka Vušković in pre-season before deciding what is next for the defender.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the 17-year-old’s short-term future in North London could depend on what European competition Ange Postecoglou’s side are in.

Vušković is currently making a big impression on loan with Westerlo in Belgium. He will join Tottenham in 2025 after he turns 18, with Spurs having paid £12million to sign him from Hajduk Split (via Evening Standard, 25 September 2023).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has speculated that the Croatian could be ready for first-team football next season.

“I think they’ll definitely look at him in preseason before a decision is made,” Wenham said.

“I’ve previously suggested that I thought Vušković would join a Championship club on loan. However, they looked at Lucas Bergvall and decided he was ready for the first team.

“It also depends on what European competition we’re playing next season. Should we end up in the Europa League, Spurs might decide to keep him around and establish him in the first team by using that competition.

“Should we qualify for the Champions League, they might send him out on loan. However, if he impresses in pre-season, who knows what could happen.”

Luka Vušković to make instant first-team impact at Tottenham?

Spurs supporters will be excited to see what Vušković can do. However, the step up to the Premier League is big, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has speculated that the centre-back could struggle.

Therefore, the club and fans alike mustn’t put any pressure on the youngster.

Although he seems to be flying at the moment, he might need some time to settle in under Ange Postecoglou.

He will still only be 18 when he arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As a result, whether he is thrown straight into the first team or sent out on loan, Vušković has plenty of time to make a name for himself.
