Thomas Tuchel’s deal to become England manager is worth in the region of £5 million a year.

The 51-year-old has reached an agreement with the Football Association to become England’s new permanent manager and will take up his position in January 2025.

Lee Carsley is set to remain in interim charge of England’s two Nations League games in November before moving back to his position as head coach of the Under-21s.

Tuchel has agreed an 18-month deal with the FA which will see him remain as England manager until after the World Cup in 2026.

Both Sky Sports and MailOnline report that Tuchel’s deal as England manager is worth around £5m per year, which puts him on similar earnings to Gareth Southgate’s final contract with the FA.

Southgate was earning £1.8m a year when he took charge of England in 2016, and that rose to £3m per year with his contract extension in 2018. He then agreed a £5m-a-year deal with the FA in 2021.

It’s understood that Tuchel’s deal will also include a further bonus from the FA if he guides England to victory at the World Cup.

Tuchel, meanwhile, has opted to take a significant pay cut from what he could be earning at club level in his first job with a national side.

The German earned €9m (£7.5m) per season with Bayern Munich, while his contract during his time at Chelsea was believed to be in excess of £10m a year.

Tuchel has been out of work since he left Bayern Munich at the end of last season but has held talks with Manchester United, who considered replacing Erik ten Hag in the summer.
