Steven Alzate may require a procedure on his ankle as Rangers may eye a potential summer transfer, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that if his ankle continues to have setbacks down the line, the club and the Colombian with 7 international caps, may decide to go in for surgery.

It’s understood that the 25-year-old is up for grabs this summer after his contract with Brighton ran out in June. [Daily Record, 5 June at 12:44 pm]

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

A syndesmotic ligament tear which he had last season is colloquially known as a ‘high ankle sprain’.

Hard to say if it’s a recurring issue because no details are given on the injury specifics.

In the case of recurring high ankle sprains, the latest surgery is called a ‘tightrope procedure’ that will help stabilise the ankle and the player and club would need to decide if they want to go ahead with it but it is always a possibility down the line.

They will certainly monitor it before making a decision to sign him.

Steven Alzate would be a solid free transfer for Rangers

Gers should consider signing Alzate on a free transfer due to his proven experience in top-flight football, particularly in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion.

His versatility adds tactical flexibility to the squad and he’s also made multiple appearances for the Colombia national team.

Rangers will be seeking transfer reinforcements this summer

At 25, he has the potential for further development and he could be a long-term commitment to the club and a low-risk transfer as well.

In other Rangers news, a £2.5m bid is being readied with Gers now in advanced talks to secure yet another transfer.
