'Find another team' - Pundit view: Ruthless Clement wants fight with more Rangers exits to come

Philippe Clement will want his players to fight for their place or leave Rangers as he imposes himself on the club this summer, believes Derek Ferguson.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder expects plenty more incoming and outgoing movements during the transfer window as the Belgian shapes the squad in his image for his first full season in charge, with Hamza Igamane’s confirmed arrival having already taken the number of signings up to seven amid a host of exits.

Ferguson expects there will still be members of the first-team who want to be given assurances over game time next season, but with the Light Blues linked to numerous potential signings the manager isn’t likely to make such concessions and will expect everyone to battle to get in the side or move on.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “There’s going to be comings and goings. Rangers have been linked with everybody, here, there and everywhere.

“There’s going to be players that’d probably like to have that assurance that they’re going to be playing first-team football.

“I don’t think that’s going happen under the manager. Clement, he did ever so well with that limited group that he had last season when he took over.

“Now it’s going to be his side next season so I don’t think he’s going to mess about.

“So these guys, if they don’t want to fight for their place well go and find another team, find another league.”

Clement has no choice but to overhaul the squad after his new manager bounce did all the hard work of putting the Light Blues in the box seat to claim a stunning treble, only for fitness and form deficiencies to contribute to the opportunity collapsing with just the League Cup secured.

The Belgian himself can’t escape criticism for how last season ended, and his inability to get a win against Celtic has put him under pressure.

But he has responded already with a host of significant exits already confirmed, such as the injury-prone pair Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe, plus Borna Barisic and John Lundstram, even if the manager would have surely chosen the keep the latter.

With more departures potentially set to include the likes of captain James Tavernier, main striker Cyriel Dessers, controversial midfielder Todd Cantwell, and senior centre-back Connor Goldson it appears virtually nobody is off limits, which is a mindset which most supporters likely believe is necessary this summer.

In other Rangers news, a senior Light Blues man has been dropped to the reserves as he nears transfer exit.
