Timo Werner could exit Tottenham in January as transfer update emerges from Germany

Tottenham could allow Timo Werner to end his loan spell with the club in January, according to Kicker.

The German news outlet reported online (24 October) that Spurs would not put any obstacles in the forward’s way should he look to leave the club in January.

A major crisis in terms of injuries and suspensions would be needed for Werner to have an extended run in Ange Postecoglou’s first team.

RB Leipzig, Werner’s parent club, would also be willing to sanction a loan deal or sale if they could find either.

Timo Werner to exit Tottenham in January?

The majority of Spurs’ supporters likely wouldn’t be too upset to see the back of Werner.

He has been something of a bit-part player this season, hardly starting any matches. In addition, when he has come on as a substitute, the 28-year-old has failed to make an impact, particularly in the final third.

As a result, it would be a surprise to see Spurs take up any option to sign Werner permanently. Therefore, allowing him to leave the club in January, rather than May, likely wouldn’t make much of a difference.

With the likes of Wilson Odobert and Mikey Moore sniffing around for first-team places out wide, Spurs have sufficient depth in that area of the pitch.

As a result, fans would likely prefer to see minutes handed to those two younger players, who are likely to have a much bigger future in North London.

Ultimately, any decision on Werner will rest with Postecoglou.

However, Spurs fans probably won’t lose much sleep, no matter what he decides.
