Son Heung-Min is now the most talented player at Tottenham after Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer.

There is absolutely no doubt about that as the South Korean international continues to impress on the pitch as well as wear the captain’s armband at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Some will argue that the 32-year-old should already be considered a Premier League cult legend, having made 415 appearances since arriving in North London from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

His impact has somewhat gone underappreciated, most likely due to being in Kane’s shadow for the majority of his career in England, but he is now the main star under Ange Postecoglou.

Despite this, there has been some controversy over whether Son should be considered “world-class” following his exploits for club and country.

After being questioned by Jeff Stelling live on talkSPORT [8 October, 7:46am], Ally McCoist said: “Oh… The fact of the matter is, not recently. But, over his career, he’s on the cusp. It’s a difficult one. No.”

Should Tottenham star Son Heung-Min be considered world-class?

There is a very easy answer to the question. Absolutely. Over his nine-year spell in North London, Son has notched 164 goals and 86 assists, with another 71 goal contributions at international level.

He already has two Man of the Match performances to his name this season, as per FotMob, scoring with two of his three shots on target against Everton, maintaining a 100 per cent shot accuracy.

The 32-year-old also grabbed a nine out of 10 rating in the 3-1 win over Brentford, recording two assists, recording a 100 per cent shot accuracy, and creating seven chances, two of which were big [FotMob].

Compared to forwards in Europe’s top five leagues, the winger ranks in the top 98 percentile for assists, the top 99 percentile for passing accuracy, the top 96 percentile for progressive carries, and even the top 83 percentile for successful take-ons [FBref].

With green bars all across the board, it takes an incredible amount of dedication to have his kind of impact at Premier League level and has written himself into the history books.

He also has multiple awards to his name, having won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021/22 season, while also becoming the first Asian player to score 100 goals in English Premier League.

All fingers point towards “world-class” status, so it remains a mystery why someone of McCoist’s status would disagree. Tottenham fans know exactly how much he has achieved for the club.

In other Tottenham news, an 88% star is absolutely key for Ange Postecoglou, Joe Hart was wowed by MOTD footage.
