Tottenham insider reveals when Van de Ven will return from injury

Paul O’Keefe has shared that Tottenham defender Micky Van de Ven could be out for up to three weeks.

The Dutchman left the pitch in the second-half of the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea (8 December) with a hamstring injury after a surprise inclusion in the starting XI.

Ange Postecoglou had dismissed the idea that the 23-year-old had suffered an injury in his post-match press conference, saying that the defender just felt a tightness [Standard, 9 December].

Spurs expert O’Keefe was responding to a fan who asked about the player’s injury on X [11 December], he said: “Waiting to confirm a definite timeline but hearing a reoccurrence of injury and maybe 2-3 weeks.”

What games will Van de Ven miss for Tottenham?

If O’Keefe is right and the Dutchman will miss two to three weeks of action, he will be out until Christmas or New Year.

If it is the former, he will miss five matches, the Europa League clash with Rangers, the EFL Cup match with Manchester United and league games against Southampton, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

If it is the latter, he could also miss the league matches against Wolves (29 December) and Newcastle (4 January).

Losing Van de Ven would be a huge blow for Postecoglou, who is under pressure to retain his job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Dutch defender has been one of the most consistent players during the Australian’s reign in the dugout.

The fact that the Spurs boss felt the need to rush him and Cristian Romero could cost him his job if they are both out for a long time.
