‘Towards the end’: Alasdair Gold says he’s heard about a signing Tottenham could make close to the deadline

Tottenham Hotspur have already made a couple of signings in this summer transfer window.

Indeed, while most of the Premier League’s top clubs appear to be sitting on their hands, Spurs have been active.

Timo Werner has returned for a second loan spell, while Archie Gray has signed on a permanent deal.

Tottenham continue to be linked with more signings in the midfield and in the attack, but there has been a distinct lack of links to new defenders, which is rather odd considering the number of goals Spurs shipped last season.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has shared the state of play when it comes to Spurs looking at new centre-backs, and he says he’s been told a new central defensive addition could be possible towards the end of the transfer window.

Tottenham could sign a defender at the end of the transfer window

Gold shared what he’s been told about Spurs potentially signing a new centre-back.

“There are a few options there or maybe Spurs could push to sign someone. Everything I’ve been hearing in previous weeks is that the centre-back role if they were to sign someone it would be towards the end of the window,” Gold said.

Tottenham may not need a new defender

Spurs aren’t prioritising a new centre-back right now, and that may be wise.

A stable of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin is solid, and that’s before you even consider Ben Davies’ capabilities and the potential of players such as Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington.

Tottenham are actually quite well-stocked at centre-back, and while another new body at the end of the transfer window may be useful, it shouldn’t be Spurs’ main priority at this moment in time.

Don’t be shocked if Spurs don’t end up adding a new centre-back this summer.
