Transfer Insider: Significant Jarrad Branthwaite update tonight

Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite is still being closely watched by England’s elite clubs despite an injury-plagued campaign.

This is according to well-connected transfer expert Mick Brown, who previously worked as the chief scout at Man United among other top clubs, as he exclusively told Football Insider that clubs are keeping a close eye on the defender’s progress following his injury.

Branthwaite, 22, missed the first five games of the season after undergoing surgery on his groin in July, and suffered another blow following his only appearance against Crystal Palace.

The centre-back was the subject of three summer offers from Man United, and was also on the radar of Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The top clubs have retained their strong interest in his signature and are expected to return with bids in the summer of 2025.

Brown has insisted interested clubs will be keen to see whether the injury has affected his confidence and form playing at the back as they plot potential transfer moves.

It is said questions will be asked upon his return to regular first-team football as scouts continue to monitor his development closely.

Football Insider revealed on 27 September that Man United are one of the clubs who could line up a new offer for Branthwiate in the January transfer window.

Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game after his time at Man United, Aston Villa, West Ham and more, insisted that it would cost a big fee to get him out of Goodison Park, but he does expect the interest to be there.

“That interest is definitely still there,” he told Football Insider.

“But what’s happened is, at a time when everybody’s interested in him and his development is going well, he’s picked up quite a bad injury.

“That will have knocked him back, and the big clubs will be looking for him to come again now having gone through all of that.

“I know questions will be asked of him as a result of that.

“I went to watch him when he was at Carlisle and he played in central midfield. His work on the ball was fantastic, but there were concerns about his mobility in the middle.

“All the top clubs in the country were there that day, and nobody took a chance on him except for Everton. They’ve helped his development massively.

“Now, most of those top clubs are interested in him again and they’ll have to pay a top price to get him out of Everton.”
