Two-time league winner 'does not close doors' for Everton transfer - report

Florentino Luis is not closing the door on a potential summer transfer to Everton this summer, according to Jornal de Noticias.

Writing on their website (10 July), the Portuguese news outlet report that the central midfielder’s future at Benfica is “uncertain” amid interest from the Toffees, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

Everton have already made a bid for the 24-year-old this summer that was rejected [Correio de Manha, 31 May], but they “continue to follow” the player in the hopes of striking a deal with the Portuguese giants.

There has been a big expectation at Goodison Park this summer that Amadou Onana would be heading out, but so far those links have gone quiet.

The Belgium star shone at Euro 2024 despite his nation’s relatively early exit from the tournament, and now he is enjoying a well deserved break. But at some point interest is expected to become more concrete.

While the club are open to allowing him to leave for the right price, he will still need replacing if that offer comes in and that means the board should be on their toes looking for replacement.

Luis is a tall, agile midfielder whose best attributes are defensive, and that would see him slot in well alongside the current midfield options.

However, with other interest in the player from the Premier League the Toffees will have to make a quick decision if they want to seal a deal but Luis could well be the man the team are eyeing as their marquee midfield transfer.
