The SPFL have been blasted as an “utter joke” by Ewan Murray as Hibernian fans are still uncertain on whether they can attend Ibrox to face Rangers.
Guardian journalist Murray posted on X [25 September] to claim the league governing body treat supporters with “utter contempt”, with supporters planning to travel across from Edinburgh still yet to be cleared to attend as the away crowd.
Maintenance delays on the Copland Road Stand have thrown plans into the air over whether away fans can make the trip to Ibrox to watch their sides, and if so, how much of said allocation [Daily Record, 19 September].
Murray blamed the SPFL for the farce, saying: “Hibs go to Ibrox on Sunday. Their supporters still don’t know if they can buy tickets to attend the match.
“An utter joke. The SPFL treats paying customers with total contempt.”
Rangers uncertain on whether Hibs fans can attend Ibrox
While Rangers fans are unlikely to bother themselves too much with the fiasco surrounding away supporters, Hibs fans are stuck in limbo over whether they can plan for Sunday (29 September) or not.
The fixture will become the first Scottish Premiership match to be played at Ibrox this season, following on from the Gers’ League Cup win over Dundee back at their home stadium last weekend, as the maintenance delays had forced a temporary relocation to Hampden Park.
Tam McManus has been among those to vocalise their concerns, and he blames Rangers for leaving visiting supporters in the dark.
There is not too much that can be done from the club’s perspective – clearance from the SPFL will allow the Gers to communicate information to fans, but for now their hands are somewhat tied.
A huge game lies in wait with David Gray’s side fancying their chances of nicking a result from Govan, despite only one league win so far. Philippe Clement’s men, meanwhile, simply have to win to ensure the gap to Celtic doesn’t extend as widely as eight points.
