Dejan Kulusevski has undoubtedly been one of the most pivotal players for Tottenham this season, but the Swedish national has had his ups and downs in recent weeks.

After impressive displays in the wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa, the former Juventus superstar was underwhelming in the losses to Galatasaray and Ipswich Town.

Spurs lost 3-2 to the Turkish champions in the Champions League on 7 November and dropped valuable three points as the Tractor Boys defeated the North Londoners 2-1 in the Premier League on 10 November.

Kulusevski was nowhere to be seen in the two fixtures, and it’s surprising to see the 24-year-old putting his teammates under the bus.

Ahead of the game against City in the league on 23 November, the Sweden international said of his side’s inconsistent form [Daily Mail, 23 November]: “I think there are a couple of factors and one is here inside the training ground.”

“To be a champion, you have to be a champion every day. You have to give everything every day. I feel we lack a little bit of discipline in terms of that consistency. That’s what is missing.”

The forward added: “The quality is there, the football is there. But you have to do it every day. You can’t be happy because you win a game, two games, three games. You have to win every game.”

“I think these are the steps that we have to take. We have the football, but we have to get more disciplined. Maybe someone else has a different opinion, but that is mine.”

While it’s evident that Tottenham have lacked consistency, it’s strange to see it coming from Kulusevski, who hasn’t pulled any trees himself as of late.

Dejan Kulusevski inconsistent for Tottenham

Tottenham have lost three and won two in their last five fixtures, with Kulusevski posting a measly combined xG and xA of 0.12 [FotMob] in the 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace on 27 October.

The 24-year-old was brought on as a substitute to turn the tide in the second half against Galatasaray, but the attacker went missing, managing just 29 touches in the game and completing 10 of his 13 passes [FotMob].

Spurs losing to Ipswich was the most damaging result, with the Swede completing just 76 per cent of his passes, zero per cent of his long passes and accurately crossing in just one of his nine attempts [FotMob].

The Lilywhites faithful will be glad to see someone saying what they’re feeling, but Kulusevski must look himself in the mirror before criticising other players in the squad.

In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou has been warned of losing the dressing room if current trends continue.
