Eveliina Summanen once again demonstrated her value as Tottenham Women drew 2-2 with Aston Villa Women at Villa Park on Sunday (29 September).

Robert Vilahamn’s side made a blistering start to the season.

The North London outfit thrashed Crystal Palace Women 4-0 (22 September), with Hayley Raso shining on her Barclays Women’s Super League debut.

However, Spurs couldn’t make it back-to-back wins to kick off the WSL season, relying on a late Bethany England goal to rescue a point at Villa Park.

Nonetheless, there was still one big positive to take from the trip to Birmingham.

While Raso was the talk of the town on her debut, Summanen reminded everyone just how important she is in the draw with Villa.

The midfielder gave Spurs the lead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. In addition, she completed 79 per cent of her passes, while 75 per cent of her long balls forward were accurate (Sofascore).

However, it was defensively where the 26-year-old really stood out, as she won 100 per cent of her ground duels, and made two clearances and four interceptions.

Goals in the 78th and 88th minute from Adriana Leon and Rachel Daly looked to have won it for Villa. However, England stepped off the bench to score a 96th-minute equaliser.

It could prove to be a big goal, and Spurs will hope to carry that momentum with them when they travel to The Valley to take on Charlton Women in the FA Women’s League Cup on Wednesday (2 October).

And if Summanen starts and is at her best once again, they have every chance of winning that match.

In other Tottenham news, one player was labelled an “animal” after his performance in the 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford (29 September).
