Radu Dragusin has struggled to adapt to life at Tottenham and his cameo during a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich will do him no favours.
The two sides met for the second time in a week, facing off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 August, with Ange Postecoglou’s side preparing for the new Premier League season.
Despite Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero finally being available for the Lilywhites, Dragusin was still given the nod, partnering Ben Davies in defence.
While Dejan Kulusevski got his side off to the best possible start, hitting the back of the net in the first minute, things went very sour very quickly against the Bundesliga giants.
Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller scored quick-fire goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half-time break, and even despite an “outstanding” piece of defending from the Romanian, Dragusin could do little to warrant a second half on the pitch [Football London].
Radu Dragusin does little to impress in Tottenham defeat v Bayern Munich
The 22-year-old was hooked at half-time, being replaced by Romero, which saw a much more professional second half for Spurs.
While the centre-back did produce one moment of class and won 100 per cent of his tackles, Postecoglou will have been expecting more from the Romanian international [FotMob]
Dragusin won just 33 per cent of his ground duels against Bayern and clearly struggled to deal with their attack, having made two fouls in 45 minutes and receiving a yellow card in the friendly fixture.
It comes as no surprise after the central defender failed to break into Postecoglou’s starting line-up last season, making just four Premier League starts and coming on as a substitute in five others.
While the centre-back has proven his attacking ability for Spurs, his defensive attributes have left fans wanting more. He worryingly ranks in the bottom seven percentile for tackles and the bottom 15 percentile for blocks [FBref].
Postecoglou will be looking for defenders who put their body on the line for Tottenham, even in a pre-season fixture, especially Romero, who ranks in the top 89 percentile for tackles, top 79 percentile for interceptions, and top 74 percentile for blocks [FBref].
