Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham team to take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday (19 August).

Spurs get their 2024/25 Premier League campaign underway with a trip to newly-promoted Leicester City.

Steve Cooper will be keen to kick off his reign at the King Power Stadium with a big victory over a traditional top-six Premier League side.

Therefore, Spurs are likely to have their work cut out for them. After seeing the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United kick off their seasons with three points, Postecoglou will be keen to do the same.

As a result, his decision to bench Dejan Kulusevski is a surprising one.

Spurs confirmed their starting lineup via the club’s official X account (19 August), and supporters would have no doubt been frustrated to see Kulusevski miss out.

Kulusevski enjoyed a positive pre-season and was one of Spurs’ brightest players in their 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (10 August).

The Swede scored twice while also completing one of his two dribble attempts and completing 71 per cent of his passes (SofaScore).

In addition, he won five ground duels and also won four fouls for Spurs while playing through the middle.

While it is not a surprise to see Dominic Solanke start up front, it is perhaps a shock that Brennan Johnson has been preferred to Kulusevski on the right.

Johnson managed just 18 touches against Bayern Munich and failed to provide a single accurate cross into the box. In addition, he was unable to play any key passes or register a shot at goal.

Therefore, Postecoglou will need to see much more from the Welshman against the Foxes if his decision to leave out Kulusevski is to be justified.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must consider handing one youth sensation first-team minutes.
