Jamie O’Hara tore into Brennan Johnson as Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).
Ange Postecoglou’s side continued their poor start to the campaign with a North London derby defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It is the third consecutive season in which Mikel Arteta’s side have claimed victory in enemy teriority. Therefore, people connected with Spurs will no doubt be feeling incredibly frustrated.
O’Hara is clearly one of those people, with the ex-Spurs midfielder taking to his personal X account (15 September) midway through Spurs’ defeat against Arsenal to criticise Johnson.
The talkSPORT pundit wrote, “(Brennan) Johnson is even more frustrating to watch in the flesh than he is on TV”.
In response to a fan, the 37-year-old added, “He never shows for the ball he hides behind the Arsenal player, he’s never an option watching him live it’s unbelievable how much he hides”.
And after watching Johnson’s performance, Postecoglou will no doubt be considering dropping the Welshman when Tottenham host Brentford on Saturday (21 September).
Brennan Johnson struggles for Tottenham v Arsenal
Johnson offered very little threat for Spurs against Arsenal. As a result, he will surely be on thin ice in North London.
As per Sofascore, while the forward did complete 92 per cent of his passes, with one of those key, and one cross into the box, his quality in the final third was poor.
Of his four shots, just one was on target, and that was a tame attempt at best with David Raya having very little to do to stop the shot.
Johnson failed with his only attempted dribble and had just 25 touches of the ball in 68 minutes, the least of any Spurs player who started the match, including Guglielmo Vicario
Defensively he was also incredibly poor, winning just 20% of his ground duels and being dribbled past once. As a result, O’Hara was right to criticise the 23-year-old.
Spurs need to show improvement in the attacking areas. Therefore, Johnson should be the first to be sacrificed.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been backed to sign one player as a replacement for Ben Davies.
