Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero continues to demonstrate his quality.

Romero was a key player for Ange Postecoglou during the 2023/24 campaign.

And the 26-year-old will no doubt be one of the first names on the teamsheet once again next season when Tottenham return to action.

In the meantime, the defender is putting in some big performances for Argentina at the 2024 Copa America.

He played two of his nation’s three group stage matches, keeping clean sheets on both occasions and helping the World Cup winners reach the quarter-final stage with a 100 per cent record.

Speaking recently about Romero, ex-Barcelona and Liverpool defender Javier Mascherano piled praise on the Spurs man.

Mascherano said, (via The Mirror, 5 July), “Cuti Romero is among the best centre-backs in the world if he’s not the best already. We don’t know what his ceiling is.

“I believe he is at an incredible level, a player with impressive abilities who continues to grow and improve. The level he is reaching is impressive.”

Romero was a rock at the back once again for Argentina as they advanced to the semi-finals of the Copa America.

The defending champions qualified for the final four via a 4-2 penalty shootout victory following a 1-1 draw with Ecuador in Texas, USA (4 July).

As per Sofascore, Romero made two clearances and blocked one shot. Although he was dribbled past on one occasion, the Tottenham star made up for it with five total tackles.

In addition, Romero won five of his seven ground duels and hie one aerial duel.

He also showcased his usual quality on the ball, completing 94 per cent of his passes while only conceding possession five times from 79 touches overall.

And he was effective when looking for teammates further forward, with four of his six long balls forward proving accurate.

It was another top display and another reminder to Postecoglou that Romero will be key for Tottenham next year.
