Ange Postecoglou could axe Brennan Johnson when Tottenham host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
Spurs head into the clash with the Cottagers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [1 December] off the back of a 2-2 UEFA Europa League draw with Roma, which also took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium [28 November].
Therefore, Postecoglou will be hoping his side can put things right and pick up three points in front of the club’s supporters this time around.
Despite the disappointment of their draw with Roma, Spurs’ most recent Premier League result was a stunning one, with the North London side thrashing Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium [23 November].
As a result, there is no reason why Tottenham can’t pick up three points against Marco Silva’s side, which could see them move as high as third in the Premier League depending on results elsewhere.
And Postecoglou could make three changes for the clash from the draw with Roma.
Ange Postecoglou to make three Tottenham changes v Fulham?
Guglielmo Vicario is sidelined for the foreseeable future, which means Fraser Forster will expect to once again start between the sticks. Despite concerns about the 36-year-old, Forster looked good against Roma, making five saves from inside the box [Sofascore].
Cristian Romero is “unlikely” to feature against Fulham [via Football London, 29 November], which means Radu Drăguşin and Ben Davies will likely start alongside each other once again in the heart of defence. Davies looked good against Roma, making six clearances and completing 91 per cent of his passes, justifying Spurs’ reported contract decision regarding the Welshman [via The Athletic, 27 November].
Pedro Porro will likely keep his place at right-back after making six tackles and striking the woodwork against Roma, while Archie Gray will expect to make way for Destiny Udogie.
In midfield, Rodrigo Bentancur remains suspended in domestic competition and will therefore be forced to make way, with Yves Bissouma likely to replace him. Meanwhile, Pape Matar Sarr could keep his place after winning two of his three ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels in midfield on Thursday.
James Maddison could return to complete the midfield three, which could see Dejan Kulusevski moved to the right and Brennan Johnson make way.
Ange Postecoglou to axe Brennan Johnson for Tottenham v Fulham?
Johnson scored his ninth goal of the season against Roma and is Spurs’ top scorer so far this term. However, despite getting on the scoresheet, the Welshman only managed to complete 60 per cent of his passes and also missed two big chances against Claudio Ranieri’s side.
Therefore, while it could be a risk to take his top scorer out of the team, Postecoglou might decide to bench Johnson and go with the same team which started against City.
That would see Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke keep their place to complete the lineup.
Son opened the scoring against Roma and played two key passes, while Solanke struggled slightly against the Serie A outfit, missing two big chances and losing all six of his aerial duels.
In other Tottenham news, the club are in the running to sign a Liverpool hero after a Postecoglou reveal.
