Cristian Romero only played 15 minutes for Tottenham as they succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday but it was not exactly the best display from the Argentina defender.
The centre-back returned from injury for the first time since the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town prior to the international break.
However, the 26-year-old had to be replaced by Radu Dragusin after seemingly hurting his groin in an innocuous turn in the first half.
But it was that innocuous moment that really earned the ire of Jamie Carragher when speaking on co-commentary when Romero tried to flick the ball to Dejan Kulusevski in his own penalty area at a time they had raced into a 2-0 first-half lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I mean, what a stupid thing to do. You talk bout being strong defensively then you’ve got defenders doing things like that.
“Absolutely ridiculous. you just scored a goal, a huge game, a game you need to get something from. He’s actually hurt himself doing it.”
Cristian Romero moment slammed in Tottenham v Chelsea
Romero was only on the pitch for a quarter of an hour but it was still not the best display from the defender in that time.
According to SofaScore statistics, Romero lost 50 per cent of his four ground duels, winning two and losing the other two.
He also conceded one foul and lost possession once during his short time on the pitch, with his lacklustre show putting Spurs on the back foot after a promising start to the game.
Romero was also dribbled past once, although he did manage to make two tackles in what was a frenetic start to the game in North London.
The fiery Argentine also completed three out of four passes (75%) from his six touches of the ball, but one was the aforementioned silly flick.
You have to assume Ange Postecoglou would have been fuming with his actions at the time, especially given the start Spurs had made.
The fact his team then went on to blow a two-goal lead to lose 4-3, a result that leaves Spurs in 11th, will have worsened his mood.
