Everton could be ready to hand Jesper Lindstrom a proper run in the team following developments from Saturday’s draw at Arsenal.

The Toffees thwarted Mikel Arteta’s side throughout at the Emirates to earn a stalemate, but Jack Harrison – who was a late change for the injured Dwight McNeil on the flank – was virtually anonymous.

Harrison was hooked midway through the second half in favour of fringe player Lindstrom, who looked a livewire as he knew the circumstances could swing his way.

Everton confirmed before kick-off in North London [via X, 14 December] that McNeil – one of the side’s form players so far this term – was sidelined with a knee injury which had flared up in the past few days.

Jesper Lindstrom could be next in line for Everton

Lindstrom had issues with previous club Napoli with struggling for game time, and joined the Toffees on loan for a fresh chapter in the Premier League knowing the task could again be tricky.

The 24-year-old, who has 16 caps for Denmark, has so far started just six times in the league, playing fewer than 500 minutes as Christmas approaches – but now could be his chance.

With McNeil’s recovery time posing a dilemma for Dyche and Harrison failing to take his chance, Lindstrom has made himself a case to be a more regularly considered option.

Agile and flighty in possession, the Dane works well in tight spaces, which when he gathers more confidence could prove very useful in rigorous Premier League encounters with little time on the ball in wide areas.

He will also put in a key defensive shift, which when positioned on the right is vital to assist the veteran Ashley Young, who himself is defying the concept of age with some incredible defensive performances in recent games.

In other Everton news, Tim Sherwood is mesmerised by what one Toffees star did against Bukayo Saka.
