'We want to go far for him' - Club chief plans to push budget for 'Very Important' Rangers ace

FC Utrecht are ready to “go far” to sign Sam Lammers from Rangers this summer even though he is above their price-range, according to Jordy Zuidam.

The club’s technical director admits the Dutch forward is “very important” to the Eredivisie side after he scored 11 goals for them in his half-season on loan there last time.

Lammers, 27, struggled mightily at Ibrox after his arrival last summer, but his form back in his homeland has sparked a transfer battle with FC Twente also interested, although their own technical director Arnold Bruggink is playing it cool.

He said, via Football Scotland (9 June): “We also have a very good striker at FC Twente. So, it is not that we need someone there immediately. By the end of the European Championship we will things will get going as usual. We are not panicking.”

Zuidam said, via Football Scotland: “He is a very important link in our team, so we want to go far for him. It is above our ceiling, but we are now looking for a solution.”

Rangers have decided to sell Lammers this summer and are now hopeful of at least making their money back on him, if not banking a profit, according to Rangers Review on 29 May.

FC Utrecht and FC Twente to battle for Rangers forward

If a deal can be reached with any club to get a decent return for Lammers then the Light Blues will probably think themselves pretty lucky considering how low his stock was in January.

The club and above all the player himself deserves credit for securing his Utrecht loan in the winter window and him making the most of the opportunity.

While the Dutch club benefited from his record-breaking goals last term he looks to have impressed past the point where they can easily do a deal to bring him back.

From a Rangers point of view it is all the better if rivals join the race and push the price up, but it would surely be helpful to wrap a deal as early as possible.

Rangers
Philippe Clement could do with the transfer fee to sign a new Rangers forward this summer.

Philippe Clement may have made a fast start to the summer with deals for Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Leon Balogun tried up already but he has plenty more to do as he looks to overhaul a squad which fell badly short at the end of the season.

The sooner a fee could be secured for Lammers the sooner it should free up some leeway in the manager’s attempts to replace him and do business elsewhere, but the Euros kicking off imminently might force deals to wait.

In other Rangers news, a newly-appointed manager has requested his club sign a high-profile Ibrox star.
