'Weirdest player we've ever had' - David Edgar issues joke on Rangers ace post Olympiacos

David Edgar has joked that Cyriel Dessers is the weirdest player Rangers have ever had after the Olympiacos clash on Thursday.

The Nigerian striker scored the equaliser as Gers played out a 1-1 draw in Greece in the Europa League on 7 November.

However, prior to that, he missed a number of chances and since his move to Ibrox, has been extremely inconsistent.

Edgar wrote on X: “I honestly have no idea what to make of Dessers. I’ve been watching Rangers for 42 years and he’s the weirdest player we’ve had.

“Some PhD needs to do a study on him.”

For Dessers to succeed at Ibrox, he has to transform his game from being a player of occasional highlights to one of consistent performance.

Rangers cannot afford to have a striker who delivers unpredictably.

Dessers’ role is pivotal as the primary goal scorer, where inconsistency can lead to dropped points and missed opportunities in crucial matches.

The 29-year-old’s ability to score in big moments, like the equaliser against Olympiacos, shows he has the talent, but the game demands more than just fleeting moments of brilliance.

A striker needs to be a reliable source of goals, a consistent threat to opposition defences and someone who can be depended upon every week.

Right now, Dessers is seen as more of a luxury player than a utility player and that needs to change quickly.
