Wenham drops 'Outstanding' Mikey Moore claim as Tottenham teammate exit finalised

John Wenham believes Tottenham chose to prioritise the development of Mikey Moore over Yago Santiago.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that the club had a choice to make between the two youngsters.

As confirmed via the Spurs’ official website (30 July), Santiago has joined Spanish Segunda Division side Elche permanently.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the move was inevitable.

“I think Tottenham decided to prioritise Moore’s development,” Wenham said.

“He is the outstanding talent in his age group and the club won’t want to lose him. Unfortunately, Moore and Santiago play in the same position.

“Santiago was brilliant last year, and he probably feels quite hard done by. As soon as he wasn’t part of the pre-season tour it felt like the writing was on the wall.

“I wish him the best of luck in Spain and hopefully after a season he can get a move to La Liga.”

Ange Postecoglou has several exciting young talents to choose from in North London. However, the only problem is that the Australian can’t hand minutes to all of those players.

Therefore, decisions will need to be made, and it feels as though despite his impressive form for the under-21s last term, there just wasn’t enough space in Postecoglou’s squad for Santiago.

As a result, the permanent transfer of the forward makes sense.

In addition, Santiago is 21, while Moore is still only 16 years old. Therefore, it is understandable why Tottenham are more keen to keep hold of the Englishman and continue his development, rather than focus on Santiago.
