Wenham shares £100m+ transfer guess as Tottenham plan contract talks with big-name star

John Wenham believes Tottenham defender Cristian Romero would cost more than £100million if he were to be sold.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is hopeful that the North London club can agree fresh terms with the defender.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via his Daily Briefing (19 September), Tottenham plan to hold contract talks with Romero in the coming months.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that the club can keep hold of the 26-year-old.

“Hopefully Spurs can demonstrate to Romero that we’re moving in the right direction,” Wenham said.

“I don’t want the club to be selling our best players. However, if they were forced to sell Romero, we’d be talking £100million-plus.

“It is no surprise that top clubs around Europe are interested in him. However, hopefully Tottenham could agree a brand-new deal with him and we don’t need to sell him.”

Romero is one of the first names on the teamsheet in North London. Therefore, it is no surprise that Spurs want to try and extend his stay with the club.

The centre-back’s current deal expires in 2027, which means Tottenham do have some time on their side.

However, the closer that deal gets to expiring, the more nervous people connected with the club are likely to become. As a result, it is better to sort out Romero’s long-term future sooner rather than later.

Even though the Argentine hasn’t been at his best this season, Ange Postecoglou continues to call on him.

It demonstrates his importance to the squad, and Postecoglou of all people will want the defender’s long-term future resolved to avoid any unwelcome distractions.
