Wenham speculates ex-Tottenham wonderkid who had 'more hype' than Mikey Moore to be re-signed

John Wenham believes Tottenham could re-sign Marcus Edwards to address homegrown issues within the squad.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the Sporting Lisbon forward was a more exciting prospect than Mikey Moore during his time in North London.

As reported by Football London (31 May), Edwards would be happy to return to his former club, who could sign him for just £9.75million as a result of their 35 per cent sell-on clause.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that Edwards could be a smart addition.

“A player such as Edwards will always be of interest to Tottenham,” Wenham said.

“They have a sell-on clause, so straightaway any value is taken off of a potential deal.

“Edwards was always an amazing player coming through the academy, he probably had more hype than a player like Moore has now. He was the standout man.

“Spurs have homegrown issues and maybe Edwards is a good solution for those issues. I could see him being re-signed”

While this might not be the most exciting or flashiest signing, it could be a necessary one.

Ange Postecoglou has a real lack of homegrown options within his squad, and Edwards would be a cheap yet potentially effective solution for that problem.

If he could fulfil the potential he once demonstrated at Spurs, £9.75million would suddenly look like a steal.

At 25 there is still plenty of time for Edwards to develop, and the chance to prove himself at a club where he was once sold could help him find the best form of his career yet.
