John Wenham claims Japhet Tanganga turned down interest from Premier League clubs after being released by Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has expressed his delight for the 25-year-old after it was announced by Millwall (10 July) that he had signed for the Lions.

Tanganga spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at the Den, where he became a firm fan favourite.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this would have impacted his decision to sign for the club.

“Tanganga would have had interest from Premier League clubs,” Wenham said.

“However, he experienced a difficult couple of years after a failed loan move to Germany and hardly playing for Tottenham.

“He became a real fan favourite at Millwall. Therefore, I’m chuffed to see him sign for the club.

“It was clear that he had made his mind up about where he wanted to go, and wasn’t therefore going to entertain any offers from other clubs.”

Tanganga made a positive start to his Spurs career after climbing through the ranks in North London.

However, his form began to decline as the years went by. As a result, he slowly started to fall out of favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It became clear that he didn’t have a future under Ange Postecoglou. Therefore, the club made the right decision by releasing him.

Having now signed for Millwall, Tanganga will have an opportunity to rebuild his career with a club where he will play regular first-team football.

He will always be one of Spurs’ own. As a result, supporters will no doubt wish him the best of luck in this new chapter of his career.

In other Tottenham news, one midfielder is close to joining Manchester City after leaving the club.
