John Wenham claims Tottenham academy gem Frankie Day has signed a two-year contract with the club.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lliywhite Rose has revealed that there was “worry” behind the scenes in North London that the striker would quit the club.

As per The Secret Scout via X (11 June), Day was set to leave Spurs after deregistering.

However, a change of heart saw the youngster instead choose to extend his time with the club.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is delighted by the player’s decision.

“He looked to be on his way out, there was talk of him deregistering which is quite severe,” Wenham said.

“There was understandable worry within the club, so credit to them for convincing Day to stay.

“It is fantastic to see him renew because he is the standout player at that level. It’s massive for Tottenham too as it shows the club is moving in the right direction.

“He has signed a two-year deal which will take him to the end of his time with the Under-16s. Hopefully, when they renegotiate for a scholarship deal there aren’t any issues.”

Keeping hold of the club’s best young players will be important for Ange Postecoglou.

While Day is unlikely to be ready for a first-team push in the next two years, convincing him to stay put demonstrates that Spurs is the place for young players to be.

Postecoglou already has several young talents who might be ready for first-team minutes next season.

Therefore, he must make sure to hand those players minutes to showcase to Day that there is a pathway for him in North London.
