Wenham wants Tottenham to sign 'absolutely brilliant' Bayern Munich ace who's allowed to leave

John Wenham wants Tottenham to try and sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was blown away by the German’s performance in the UEFA Champions League against Arsenal last season.

As reported by Florian Plettenberg via X (7 June), Goretzka is one of several players who would be allowed to leave Munich this summer if a suitable offer arrived.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs should be putting themselves forward.

“Goretzka is a player who has been written off left, right, and centre,” Wenham said.

“However, I watched him when Bayern played Arsenal at the Emirates last season, and I thought he was fantastic.

“In that high-pressure, high-stakes game I thought he was absolutely brilliant.

“So, it just makes me think, why can’t we target that calibre of player? Especially when it looks as if Bayern want to get rid of him.”

Spurs rarely make a move for a player as high-profile as Goretzka.

In the past, it was understandable why the club would perhaps refrain from targeting a player of that level. However, Daniel Levy is now running out of excuses not to splash the cash in North London.

The club are raking in money thanks to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and supporters will therefore want to see some of that money reinvested on the pitch.

While personal terms might be difficult to agree on, Munich are clearly willing to sell and there is therefore no reason why Spurs couldn’t at least try and sign the 29-year-old.

He is a serial winner with a proven track record at the highest level of European football and he would therefore be an incredible addition for Ange Postecoglou.
