'We're looking at...' - Journalist responds to question on Everton transfer focus

Alan Myers has shared that Everton are looking at defenders for their next transfer targets this summer.

The Sky Sports journalist reported this via X on 24 July after replying to a fan who asked what potential targets the Toffees are looking at.

There is still plenty of time left in the summer window and many more changes could occur at the club before the start of the new season.

Everton need to target defenders as a priority this summer

It goes without saying that the Toffees could still do with move additions this summer as they look to strengthen Sean Dyche’s squad.

This had already started to happen with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye arriving, while the sale of Amadou Onana should hopefully give a bit of wriggle room to bring new faces in.

However, although the few moves that Dyche has made so far will have no doubt improved the squad, there are plenty of other areas that also need focusing on.

One of those, in particular, is the depth of the Toffees’ defence. It now seems unlikely that Jarrad Branthwaite will exit Goodison Park this summer after multiple bids from Manchester United were rejected.

So centrally, their starting duo seems locked in. However as Michael Keane and Mason Holgate are now the only backups, reinforcement is needed, especially with Ben Godfrey having moved on.

This isn’t even taking into account that both Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young are both over the age of 35 and are reaching the end of their playing days, with reinforcement perhaps needed at full-back to complement Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Although changes can’t all occur at once, it now feels as if defence should be the Merseyside club’s number one priority unless another major exit occurs.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may have already found their Amadou Onana replacement.
