West Ham new boy Max Kilman is ‘tailor-made’ to be club captain in the not-so-distant future after impressing in the early part of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-West Ham striker Frank McAvennie believes ‘no-nonsense’ Kilman, 27, and Jean-Clair Todibo, 24, could become one of the best defensive partnerships in the Premier League this season.
The centre-back impressed in West Ham’s 2-0 victory over London rivals Crystal Palace, providing an assist for Jarrod Bowen’s 72nd-minute goal to secure the win.
The English defender was the most expensive of the East London club’s nine first-team signings in the summer transfer window, joining from Wolves for a reported £40 million.
Max Kilman could become West Ham captain
Kilman has started and finished all three of West Ham’s Premier League games so far this season, helping them earn two victories against Palace and Bournemouth.
With 151 Wolves appearances under his belt, the Hammers have secured the signature of a player with plenty of Premier League experience.
“I think he’s going to be the captain”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“He’s given it to Jarrod Bowen but I think Kilman is tailor-made to become the captain further down the line that’s for sure.
“I like him, I like the boy, he’s a mainstay, a no-nonsense centre-half and he’s a decent player but he doesn’t forget that he’s first and foremost a centre-half.
“He doesn’t get caught under pressure too many times which is a good sign for a centre-half.
“They’ve got Todibo coming in, I think those two could be a formidable partnership once they get a lot of minutes playing together.”
In other news, Nottingham Forest agree to sign James Ward-Prowse.
