Why there is no 2pm kick-off at EURO 2024 today

Why is there no 2pm kick-off at UEFA EURO 2024 today? Many have been left confused by the lack of an early game on Tuesday’s schedule.

Monday treated football fans to a 2pm thriller between Ukraine and Romania, which saw the latter win 3-0 and also score a Goal of the Tournament contender thanks to Nicolae Stanciu.

However, there will be no such action today.

So, why is there not a 2pm kick-off at UEFA EURO 2024? Let’s take a look…

Why there is no early kick-off at UEFA EURO 2024 today

Some readers who found themselves with a bit of free time this afternoon will surely be disappointed to hear this news, although the reasoning is quite straightforward.

Basically, there is no 2pm kick-off today as UEFA need to balance the schedule.

There was only a single game on Matchday One of the tournament, which was of course Germany’s 5-1 demolition of Scotland, whereas there have been three games a day since that opening match.

Therefore, UEFA need to balance up the first round of Group Stage fixtures – and today is the final chance to do so as Matchday Two begins on Wednesday.

Fans will – then – at least get to see the popular 2pm game return, as Croatia take on Albania in the afternoon slot.

2pm slot disappears after Matchday Three

Once this week’s UEFA EURO 2024 Group Stage fixtures have been and gone, the 2pm slot will cease to exist.

Switzerland and Germany – as well as Scotland and Hungary – begin a round of fixtures on Sunday 23rd June that will exclusively be 5pm or 8pm games, in the United Kingdom, that is.

Therefore, anybody reading this who particularly enjoys the 2pm slot and a rare chance to watch daytime football needs to make the most of it this week, as it will disappear once Saturday 22nd June is over.
