'Wow': Arsenal's Lewis-Skelly and Lokonga stunned by transfer news involving 'exciting' player today

Arsenal have built a superb squad full of top players over the past few years, which has resulted in two Premier League title challenges.

Meanwhile, the Gunners’ academy continues to produce top talents who are expected to have bright futures in the game.

However, there will always be those who slip through the net and decide that their future lies away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal gem Myles Lewis-Skelly stunned as Reuell Walters joins Luton

One such player is Reuell Walters, who was offered a new contract at Arsenal but decided not to extend his stay at the club.

The 19-year-old defender made the bench multiple times for the Gunners’ first team, but he has left N5 without making his competitive debut.

Now, Walters has signed for Luton Town, who will be eager to make an immediate return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Luton confirmed news of Walters’ signing on their Instagram, and a number of his fellow Arsenal academy graduates wished him all the best.

Myles Lewis-Skelly wrote “wow”, Albert Sambi Lokonga posted three hand-shake emojis, and Brooke Norton-Cuffy wrote “showtime”.

Walters leaves Arsenal in search of first-team football

Luton manager Rob Edwards told the club’s website: “Reuell is another person we are delighted to bring into the club.

“He is a really exciting signing – a dynamic, quick, talented young player.

“He’s had a brilliant upbringing at a couple of top clubs, and we are so pleased to get his move done.

“Pathway is very important to him. That is one of the reasons why he is leaving Arsenal.

“He had a number of inviting options, but we are so glad that he chose us and sees us as the right step to take on his journey now.”

Although Arsenal’s academy is top class, the pathway to the first-team is a little less straightforward as the standards are so high in pursuit of competing at the highest level.

This means the coaches may be a little more reluctant to throw academy graduates in at the deep end, as there’s very little margin for error in virtually every match.

As a result, it makes sense for Walters to join a club where he’s much more likely to get regular game time and develop further as a player.
