'Here we go': Arsenal now set to offload 'top player' on loan with buy option, medical booked - Romano

Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front over the next few weeks as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to strengthen their ranks.

The Gunners took the Premier League title race to the final day of the season, remarkable progress from where they were before Arteta took the reins.

This summer, Arsenal’s job will be to strengthen their squad so they can get their hands on a trophy that has eluded them since 2004.

Outgoings are also expected at Arsenal, with the Gunners likely to offload a number of players that are surplus to Arteta’s requirements.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that a “top player” on Arsenal’s books is set to be moved on on a loan deal with option to buy.

Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga now set for Sevilla move

The player in question is Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Romano has declared “here we go” on a deal with Sevilla.

Romano has taken to X to say a deal is now in place between the Gunners and the Liga outfit for Lokonga to move on a loan with option to buy.

Sevilla will cover his salary, and the option to buy is for €12million (around £10million), with a medical already booked, added the transfer insider.

Lokonga set to kickstart his career away from Arsenal

Arsenal signed Lokonga from Anderlecht back in June 2021 for a reported £17.2million fee, and he arrived to considerable fanfare.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners as one of the best players in the Belgian top flight, having captained his club at the age of 21.

“I think Arsenal made a good decision on him and I think he is going to be a top player for Arsenal in the years to come,” Anderlecht sporting director Peter Verbeke said at the time.

However, Lokonga has failed to make much of an impact at the Emirates Stadium, and hasn’t even played competitively for the Gunners since January 2023.

Lokonga is now set for another loan spell away, and if all goes well, Sevilla have the option to sign him permanently.

Hopefully he impresses in Spain and can seal himself a permanent move at a club where he can feature regularly.
