'Exact attitude I would want to have': Ian Wright blown away by £28m Aston Villa player's mentality

Over the past few weeks, Aston Villa have had the opportunity to keep tabs on two of the biggest shop windows around, namely Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

With regards to the two international tournaments, there is also the added bonus of the Villans having seen two of their players making history for their nation.

The Aston Villa players in question are Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins, who have contributed to England reaching their first ever major tournament final on foreign soil.

Konsa seamlessly replaced Marc Guehi against Switzerland, making crucial blocks and headers and being very proactive throughout.

As for Watkins, he delivered a moment that is likely to be replayed in iconic England compilation reels for decades to come.

The Villa striker scored a superb late goal to help his country run out 2-1 winners over the Netherlands in their semi-final.

Watkins latched on to a through-ball from Cole Palmer, turned Stefan de Vrij in the box and slammed a low effort home just as the clock hit 90 minutes.

Ian Wright hails Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins

ITV Sport pundit Ian Wright loved what he saw from both players and eagerly sung their praises.

“Ollie Watkins’ game is about stretching and getting beyond defenders,” Wright said on ITV, as per the BBC Sport website.

“He is in between players. His movement has purpose. It’s in his mind to get ready.

“This is what Ollie Watkins does. This is the exact attitude I would want to have.

“You want Cole Palmer to come on and hit a pass that is perfect. In the moment, get back to the basics.

“It was absolutely perfect. Nobody did that to those defenders all night. They had an easy ride until he came on.”

Watkins writing his name in Villa and England folklore

Watkins will surely already be considered one of the best strikers Villa have had in their recent history following his goalscoring heroics last term.

Now, the £28million man has delivered a moment for the ages for England, and should they go on to beat Spain in the final, his name will surely be up there in Three Lions folklore.
