Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen's become first Bundesliga team to go unbeaten throughout a season
Bayer Leverkusen remain unbeaten in all competitions in 2023/24, the Bundesliga champions now a European record-extending 51 games without loss and the first German side to complete a full season without defeat.
It is a remarkable achievement for Xavi Alonso's side, who beat Augsburg 2-1 on Matchday 34 to conclude the 2023/24 campaign with 28 wins and six draws. In doing so they have now become Germany's 'Invincibles' as the first team ever to go undefeated in a Bundesliga season.
It is not the first time they have made history this term. When Leverkusen ran out 2-1 winners over Mainz on Bundesliga Matchday 23 to make it 33 games unbeaten, the Bundesliga champions surpassed Hansi Flick’s Bayern Munich team of 2020 and 2021 in the record books for the longest run without defeat by a German side in all competitions. Another remarkable fact is that Die Werkself achieved the feat inside a single campaign.
