£3.5m release clause emerges as Rangers in advanced talks for new transfer - reports

Rangers will have to pay Adama Traore’s £3.5million release clause to beat Fenerbahce to his signature, according to AfricaFoot.

Writing on their website (7 July), the news outlet reports that the Light Blues have been in “advanced talks” [AfricaFoot, 26 May] for the Mali winger but now face stiff competition from Jose Mourinho’s side.

It’s now emerged that the 29-year-old has a release clause in his deal and Ferencvaros are willing to sell to the highest bidder, meaning Philippe Clement may have to sanction paying the whole clause.

Rangers still need attacking options at Ibrox for 2024/25

Clement and Rangers have been very busy in the transfer window so far with six players already being confirmed as new members of the squad.

Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron, Liam Kelly, Hamza Igamane and Oscar Cortes have already put pen to paper but the squad is nowhere near as strong as it needs to be when the season starts next month.

Attack is an area that especially needs additions with the future of Cyriel Dessers up in the air [Chris Jack, 3 July], Sam Lammers likely to leave and big question marks about Todd Cantwell [The Sun, 20 June], Scott Wright and Tom Lawrence too.

Traore would add experience to the side and having won trophies in the past, it could well be the type of signing that is needed to help aid a young squad along in a race.

But with Mourinho now firmly in the race for his signature, Rangers will have to move quickly or face missing out on another target this summer.
