Rangers attacker spotted with squad for pre-season camp amid Ibrox exit links - report

Scott Wright has been spotted travelling with Rangers for their pre-season training camp despite links with Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Scottish Sun.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (7 July) that the winger has made the trip to the Netherlands with the rest of Philippe Clement’s squad as the Gers’ pre-season preparations step up a level.

Wright has repeatedly been linked with a move to Hillsborough this summer, with some reports suggesting the Owls were closing in on securing his signature ahead of the Light Blues’ trip to Holland [The Fourth Official, 4 July].

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl who is thought to be a fan of Wright has refused to be drawn into the links with the Scotsman but has not ruled out a move this summer [Rob Staton, 7 July].

Even though some had assumed Wright’s exit was all but a foregone conclusion over the last few days, the fact that he has travelled with the rest of his Rangers teammates would suggest a transfer isn’t imminent.

If Wednesday were set to announce his arrival immediately, there is absolutely no way they would allow him to join another side’s training camp and the Light Blues would have next to no interest in bringing him along.

Things can change very quickly in the summer transfer window and there is every chance the winger may have to depart early if Wednesday do step up their interest, but it would be a surprise if a deal was completed quickly.

This training camp could well serve as Wright’s last chance saloon at Ibrox. If he can impress Clement over the next few days, maybe the Belgian won’t want to let him depart.

It’s unlikely that will occur, but stranger this has happened in the past. Hopefully, an agreement can be reached between the two clubs and the players sooner rather than later so this can be put to bed once and for all.
