Rangers target and Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is set to play in a pre-season game on Saturday v Fleetwood Town, according to Edinburgh News.

The news outlet reported on 24 July that the Scotland international, who has been tracked by Gers for over a year, will be available for £4million to £5million this summer.

The Ibrox outfit are yet to make contact with Hearts over the sale of the 28-year-old and Steven Naismith has revealed that the club have no intentions of parting ways with him this summer.

He said: “At every club in Scotland, every player has a value. It doesn’t always sit with the general rule of thumb, where a player’s contract is running down so they have lost a lot of value in terms of what the club could receive.

“Scotland is slightly different because of the finances in general in Scottish football. On top of that, the financial rewards of getting into Europe are so great that, if you have an asset who is going to help you do that, then that adds value. That’s simply it. For us, there is no change at all from where it was last summer or from where it was in January.”

Rangers need to initiate contact and replace Cyriel Dessers with Lawrence Shankland

Gers should prioritise initiating contact and potentially replacing Cyriel Dessers with Shankland.

The club’s openness to offers for Dessers suggests a willingness to revamp their attacking options.

Given that Shankland is valued between £4million to £5million, the funds from a potential Dessers sale could be used to secure the Hearts striker.

Shankland’s consistent goal-scoring record in the SPFL makes him an attractive option for Gers and Philippe Clement.

As he’s been playing in the league for a while and for the Scotland national team, it would not take him long to hit the ground running as well.

Shankland’s contract situation at Hearts, with just a year left, presents an opportunity for Rangers to negotiate a favourable deal and hopefully, they get this done soon.

In other Rangers news, a verdict has emerged on a Manchester United player moving to Ibrox on loan this summer.
