Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz’s agent has dismissed claims of a possible transfer back to Turkey this summer, as shared by Gokmen Ozcan.

The Turkish journalist posted on X after speaking to Necdet Ergezen about a potential return to Besiktas, where Yilmaz started his career, in the transfer window, but quickly poured cold water on the question.

Yilmaz signed for the Gers from Besiktas in 2022, and despite making less than 50 appearances across two seasons at Ibrox, the 23-year-old isn’t planning on playing club football in Turkey anytime soon.

Ergezen said to Ozcan in an interview: “Ridvan’s career plan is to continue in Europe. There is no plan to return to the Super League in the near or medium term.”

Ridvan Yilmaz faces more left-back competition at Rangers

Rangers have relied on a variety of options at left-back at Ibrox this season, amidst injuries and losses of form for both Yimaz and Borna Barisic.

Restricted to 22 starts in all competitions and a further 11 bench cameos, Yilmaz was second-choice behind Barisic for much of the campaign, with utility player Dujon Sterling stepping into the breach on occasion.

Going into the new campaign, Barisic will depart on a free transfer, but Yilmaz’s potential of becoming Philippe Clement’s primary option has already been cast into doubt [Fraser Wilson].

A left-back – 20-year-old Brazilian Jefte – has already been confirmed as the first signing of the summer, and the potential of another following suit in Chilean international Thomas Galdames could further restrict Yilmaz’s minutes [En Cancha].

However, Galdames looks more likely to play centre-back if signed, giving Yilmaz a straight shoot-out with Jefte for a berth on the left side of Clement’s defence.

Now the senior figure in his position at just 23, the onus is on Yilmax to prove to Clement and the Ibrox faithful that he can finally stake his claim as a regular Rangers starter.

In other Rangers news, a Sam Lammers transfer twist has emerged at Ibrox amidst an update from Eredivisie side FC Twente.
