Sources close to the takeover discussions between Farhad Moshiri and John Textor at Everton have shared that talks are at a “formative stage”, according to Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports reporter wrote on his X account on Thursday (15 August) that Everton majority shareholder Moshiri has a “working dialogue” with Textor as they explore whether a deal is possible.
Myers reaffirmed previous reports that Textor would need to relinquish his stake in Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
The update from Myers came after the Athletic journalist David Ornstein reported earlier on Thursday that Textor had signed paperwork with Moshiri to enter a period of exclusivity over a takeover at the Toffees.
John Textor for Everton?
Trepidation is understandable for Everton supporters at this stage in the game. With just a few days to go until the start of the new campaign, things are still pretty up in the air.
There are great concerns over the Toffees’ finances and, despite some smart plays in the transfer window, the squad feels thinner than it did last term as Sean Dyche aims to have the Toffees competing away from the relegation battle this term.
Alas, you’ve got to take the wins where you can get them. It’s been a month since rumblings began that Textor could get back into the mix (Alan Myers, 19 July). Ever since then, all that fans have really been able to do is sit back and hope that a resolution can be found.
There seems to be some positive energy surrounding the idea of him taking over. He certainly isn’t going to turn this into a heartwarming success story overnight, but he also doesn’t need to. All that Textor needs to do is look at the numbers and inject a bit of faith back into the fanbase.
With the stadium move getting closer and closer, it’s something they desperately need.
In other Everton news, Vitor Roque’s transfer stance has emerged after the Toffees made a new bid for the Barcelona striker.
