Wenham expects Man City to control transfer talks for 'Powerful' Tottenham-linked PL sensation

John Wenham expects Manchester City to control transfer talks for Tottenham-linked Premier League sensation Liam Delap.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Pep Guardiola’s side will activate their buyback clause for the Ipswich Town striker should another club come close to signing him.

According to CaughtOffside (22 October), Spurs are interested in a potential January move for Delap, with Ipswich Town set to demand more than £30million.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks it will be City setting the price for Delap, not Ipswich Town.

“The issue with Delap is that City have a buyback clause,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, as soon as any club come close to signing him, I fully expect City to activate their clause. As a result, they will then be the ones setting the price, not Ipswich.

“Delap is very good. He is big, powerful and has a lot of other great attributes. He is the exact sort of player I’d like to see Spurs sign.

“However, I just don’t see it happening for a variety of reasons, principally that buyback clause which Manchester City have.”

Delap has made quite the impact since arriving at Ipswich Town. He has scored five goals in nine Premier League games this season, despite the Tractor Boys’ struggles.

Therefore, Kieran McKenna’s side would be unwise to let Delap go. However, they might not have much say with the calibre of clubs interested.

If Tottenham were to come in for Delap, which could suggest another forward is on his way out of North London, the 21-year-old would surely accept the move.

However, things could become complicated for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs by City’s involvement.

If Delap continues to shine, City might decide to re-sign him and look to sell him on for an increased profit.

Additionally, they could even decide to keep hold of the young striker themselves, depending on the situation at the Etihad Stadium at that current moment.
