Alexander Isak told what he must do to land blockbuster Newcastle deal

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak needs to ‘produce every week’ if he wants to become the club’s highest earner.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England international Paul Robinson tells the 25-year-old he has to ‘earn the right’ to be the club’s highest-paid player after an injury-plagued start to the season.

Isak has been ruled out until the end of October at the earliest after picking up a toe injury ahead of Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham earlier in the season.

With Callum Wilson also out for the rest of the month with a back injury, Eddie Howe’s side are without a natural number nine going into pivotal Premier League fixtures against Brighton and Chelsea.

Alexander Isak needs to step up at Newcastle

Despite sitting in the top half of the table, Newcastle have the joint seventh-worst scoring record so far this season, scoring only eight goals in their first seven games.

After ending last season as the Premier League’s third-highest goalscorer, behind Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland with 25, Isak has only managed to score once in his five league appearances so far this season.

“He’s got to stay fit, score goals, and then get rewarded”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“Everyone wants to be the top earner at the football club, but you’ve got to earn the right to be the top earner.

“Gone are the days where players have it written in their contracts, there is only a handful of players that could actually demand that.

“Everyone can sit in the dressing room and say they want to be the top earner at the football club, but the top earner is the one who produces every week.

“They’re the best and they earn that right, if he wants to do that he has to earn the right.

“He’s got to keep himself fit and score some goals, we know Callum Wilson doesn’t keep himself fit, struggles with injuries throughout the season.

“I said earlier I think Newcastle are light in that area, he’s a top quality player, a real top quality player but he needs to do it on a regular basis.

“The financial reward comes with success on the pitch, that’s all I’ve got to say on that really.

“We can all demand, say we want this, that, and the other but unless you do the business on the pitch you’re not going to get it.”
