Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin remains something of a mystery, with less than a month to go until the season starts. The 25-year-old had agreed terms to a new five-year deal, but has not yet signed it.
According to Diario AS, a departure is slightly more likely than Lunin staying to be the back-up to Thibaut Courtois as things stand. The fact that agent Jorge Mendes was key in Leny Yoro’s move to Manchester United instead of Real Madrid, and teenage talent Paulo Iago is leaving the club to join Sporting CP, have created tension around Lunin too. Los Blancos feel that Mendes has been pushing Lunin towards a move.
Previous reports say that Real Madrid have set his asking price at €30m, despite the fact he has just a year left on his deal, and The Athletic agree that a departure will be ‘difficult’, due to the fact Real Madrid are demanding a fee for Lunin. They say that Mendes has been shopping Lunin to the Premier League too.
If Lunin does end up going, then they will look to bring back Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, who are one of the sides who have been linked to Lunin too. However he is an outside option in their goalkeeper hunt, and if he were to go to Arsenal, the other Premier League side he has been linked to, he would also be playing second fiddle to David Raya.
