Chelsea civil war: Eghbali has the 'upper hand' after new leaks - Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Clearlake Capital and Behdad Eghbali “have the upper hand” in the battle for full control at Chelsea.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the “leaks” from both sides at Stamford Bridge have been “fascinating” and “very messy”.

It has been widely reported that Todd Boehly, who owns 13%, and Clearlake Capital, who own 61.5%, are both vying to take full ownership of the London club.

Boehly’s relationship with Clearlake has reportedly reached breaking point and a new solution is needed for Chelsea in the future.

Widespread reports have claimed the much-maligned investor was vehemently against the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and wants the ownership to take a more hands-off approach at Stamford Bridge.

Wyness claimed Boehly has been “leaking” this information to the media as civil war rages at Chelsea.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “What a big story this has been this week.

“It’s incredible really. You’ve got Clearlake with roughly 60% of the club, while Boehly speaks for the rest of the club although he owns 13% himself.

“Clearlake have the upper hand.

“What I found fascinating in the past week is what the two sides have been leaking to the media.

“Boehly has been leaking that he’s the one who wanted to be more hands-off and put the experts in place, letting the sporting directors run the football side.

“He’s saying Clearlake have been hands on, telling the experts to feed everything into them to make the final decisions.

“It’s a very messy situation.

“We’ve been criticising them for a lack of stability, and Boehly is saying that the decision that broke the camel’s back is the Pochettino sacking.

“Stability is key in a football club, and it has been lacking at Chelsea.”
