'Complete Mess' - Chris Sutton slams Rangers as 'Bang Average' after Old Firm defeat

Chris Sutton has suggested Rangers are “in a complete mess” following defeat against Celtic.

Philippe Clement’s side were beaten 3-0 at Celtic Park on Sunday (1 September) in the first Old Firm derby of the season.

And ex-Celtic forward Sutton has blasted the Gers following their display against the Hoops.

In his latest column for the Daily Record (7 September), Sutton wrote, “I’d never, ever take the outcome of an Old Firm match for granted.

“I’ve been involved in enough of them to know that strange things can happen. But, as I made my way into the match last weekend, I sensed a lack of edge amongst the punters.

“Clement’s team were bang average and, in truth, Rangers are in a complete mess both on and off the park. That’s not just me saying that, it’s a large number of their own Ibrox faithful.”

Based on the Gers’ display against Celtic, it would be difficult for even the most optimistic of supporters at Ibrox to disagree with anything that Sutton has said.

It is not just the fact that Rangers were beaten by Celtic, it is how they were beaten which will be of concern to fans.

Although it is still incredibly early in the season, it is very difficult to see how Rangers turn this situation around and win the Scottish Premiership.

After just four matches played they are already five points behind their Glasgow rivals, with Dundee United and Aberdeen currently posing a bigger threat to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

As a result, Clement will no doubt be feeling the pressure at Ibrox.

The Belgian deserves time to turn things around. However, after the start his side have made to the season, he will need to turn things around sooner rather than later.

In other Rangers news, the club’s board will be under siege after the latest “disaster” at Ibrox.
