Confirmed: Rangers set for boardroom change, three appointments on the cards

Rangers will now see non-shareholders and non-executives on the board as well, confirms John Gilligan.

Chris Jack, from the Rangers Review, quoted the interim chairman at the club’s AGM on 5 December, who claimed that refinancing is ongoing.

It’s understood that a new chairman will be announced shortly while the Daily Record quoted Gilligan also confirming two more non-executives will be appointed.

Rangers have needed to restructure their board for a while

The restructuring of the club’s board to include non-shareholders and non-executives is a significant step forward, signalling a shift towards more diverse governance.

This change has been needed for a while, given the club’s history of mismanagement and financial instability.

While it’s a positive development that suggests a more transparent and potentially less insular approach to club management, the success of this restructuring heavily depends on the quality of the appointments.

Rangers have experienced setbacks due to poor decision-making by those in power, leading to financial and operational downturns.

It is imperative that the new board members, especially the new chairman and additional non-executives, possess the necessary expertise, integrity and vision to lead the club effectively.

The right appointments could mark the beginning of a new era for the Ibrox outfit while the wrong choices could perpetuate the club’s historical governance issues.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on the club signing a new striker in the January transfer window.
